IPI Comics is extremely pleased to announce that Texas-based Monica Gallagher will be penciling and inking the upcoming 6-part ‘Slasher meets Slavic myth in Central Texas’ series, The Matron (scripts by Drew Edwards and David Bowles).
“Monica is perfectly matched with the type of story Edwards and Bowles have created,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IPI, “and we are all excited by the amazing team that is being built for this big project, with Monica in a key role.” (We will soon announce the colorist and letterer, to complete the package).
Monica is also excited by this project, as she has stated: “I’ve always been interested in assassins/murderers (especially those of the female variety), what makes them tick, and how their actions provide commentary on societal relationships. AND as a nerd obsessed with all things folklore, tying a serial killer to generations of family murdery history and lore is just chef’s kiss.”
Monica is a writer and illustrator making comics with a positive, feminist spin. She has worked for Oni Press, Vertigo, Papercutz, Comixology, Dark Horse, and Valiant, as well as self-published several mini-comics and books. She completed two series for the webcomic giant Webtoon: Assassin Roommate (which won a Ringo award for Best Hero in 2018), and BOO! It’s Sex with Danielle Corsetto. She’s the co-writer/co-creator of Comixology’s The Black Ghost series with Alex Segura, and she adapted and illustrated the romance novel Anti-Stepbrother for Crazy Maple Studio. Monica maintains an enthusiastic following on her Patreon page, where she self-publishes the series Bonnie N. Collide, Nine to Five and The Biggest Bigfoot. She lives in Austin with her husband. She is represented by Carrie Hannigan of HG Literary Agency.
