With the rewards for The Matron 1 Kickstarter campaign being fulfilled (shipped as of this post), and The Matron 2 (with catchup for those who missed The Matron 1) running now, IPI Comics came up with a cool idea for additional rewards, but also for the company as a whole: collector cards!
We wanted collector cards to be available as auto-rewards for physical reward backers, and also give them an opportunity to purchase more cards at modest prices. For some Kickstarter campaigns, we also offer rewards to purchase our first 45 cards, representing all our comics to date.
The reason why we think this is a neat idea is because it represents our complete catalogue of comics from Bristlemouth #1 (our first comic published in March 2024) and ongoing. We know there are collectors out there (as some of us at IPI are) and we deliberately limited each card to 500 units – we will never print any more than that. Over time, these cards will become scarce and collectible. While this feature does not represent the backbone of any production effort, such as a Kickstarter campaign (where the comics themselves are obviously centre stage), we believe these little beauties add delightful cream to the cake.
We limit the variety of cards for a given comic/series roughly to 1.5 cards per issue, so if there’s a 4 part series there will be something like 6 cards produced for it. Give or take. For The Matron series (6 issues, but combined into 3 volumes/campaigns for Kickstarter), we have 9 cards in total, 3 for each campaign. Those who received a physical comic for The Matron 1 campaign would have received a random card from the first 3 in the 9 card series (numbers 37 to 39). If a backer received 2 physical copies of the comic volume, they would get 2 of the 3, and so forth. As stated above, there was also an opportunity to get all 3 by purchasing particular cards, and the ‘super’ option is to buy all 45 cards in a single bundle. For the current The Matron 2 campaign, the same deal applies, but it relates to card numbers 40 to 42.
Aside from Kickstarter campaigns, we will be handing out cards through direct purchases at conventions and events, and through special marketing exercises. Again, when we run out, there’s no more to be printed.
The Matron 2 campaign ends just before Christmas day, and we hope that you can come over and visit. The cards are just one of the many cool rewards on top of the amazing graphic storytelling books.
