IPI Comics is extremely pleased to announce the launch of its latest Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, The Death Poem of Sensei Otoro, written by the legendary Jonathan Maberry (Black Panther, Captain America, Wolverine), illustrated by the very talented Boris Kay, and coloured evocatively by Mariam Yasser. Following this, and a second, final campaign, we will be releasing 4 comics through the comic store distribution network, globally, without special rewards.
Jonathan Maberry’s spell-binding story about an aging samurai in a zombie-infested, feudal Japan!
Otoro is one of the last of the great samurai, now working as a ronin as he enters middle age. He is hired by a local and very powerful daimyo to go to a small island and rescue the daimyo’s family, particularly his infant grandson and heir. An epidemic has swept through Japan, turning the infected into flesh-eating ghouls. Otoro has to fight his way through a legion of the living dead to rescue the child, even if the mission results in his own death. After all, a samurai prays for an honorable death.
This is an incredibly exciting project for us due to its subject matter (who can’t love the idea of zombies and samurai!) as well as the creative talent involved. If you visit our crowdfunding site you will see sample artwork that will give you an idea of what’s in store if you back the project, and it will certainly whet your appetite.
What’s more, we have very cool rewards, which will never be available for those who will pick up the comics through comic stores once we have fulfilled the two campaigns – this is the first (each campaign has 40+ pages of comic, equivalent to 2 issues of a standard comic) – when released to comic stores there will be 4 issues total.
Notable rewards are:
- Choice of one, some or all of our three covers: standard, foil and die cut.
- 1-on-1 one hour sessions with Jonathan Maberry, where you can talk about virtually anything! Learn from the master.
- A limited number of amazing comics and scripts from Jonathan’s personal collection, all signed, and will be accompanied by provenance letters. This last category is extremely limited in stock, so you need to get in early if you are interested. Most of the merchandise is zombie-related (naturally).
We encourage you to visit our Kickstarter site and we assure you, you will not be disappointed.
